Separate labor and materials
Clients and inspectors want to see labor and materials apart. List materials with quantity and unit cost, and labor as hours × rate or a fixed amount per task. Many US states tax materials but not labor, so splitting them makes tax correct.
Handling deposits and progress billing
If you took a deposit, add it as a negative line ("Deposit received – $1,000") so the balance due is clear. For larger jobs, invoice per milestone: demolition, rough-in, finish.
